An Essex Wedding - March/April 2022 (Issue 103)

Q&A Fashion Our experts answers your questions GREEN CHOICES I really want my big day to be eco-friendly, and having looked in to it I want to wear a second-hand dress. However, I’m unsure what to expect, is it a different process compared to buying new? Sharyn Warner of Bridal Reloved Maldon says... The process of buying a ‘second-hand’ dress ‒ or preloved as we prefer to call them! ‒ has many advantages. 1 Your dress is ready to take away with you so absolutely perfect if you have a short lead wedding date. However, if your wedding is a little way off then you are offered the opportunity to return with it nearer to the date for it to be altered by our experienced seamstress. The majority of our dresses are, in fact, ex-sample dresses many of which we buy straight from the designers themselves at the end of their collection season. Sample dresses may have only been tried on (or in some cases, not at all) or perhaps they have been worn on a catwalk by a model. Other dresses may have a little story behind them! Either way, our dresses are in excellent condition but for sale at half the original price. This means no waste for the designers. 2 We are not tied to any particular designer and have free reign to choose our dresses, hence we have a huge range of designers, styles and sizes in stock. 3 If you prefer, you can ‘design’ your dress to suit you; sleeves can be added, changed or removed altogether, the same with necklines and straps. A corset back can even be added which means you have a wider choice of dresses as it can fit two sizes up or down. 4 You are helping the planet and environment by choosing a Bridal Reloved dress. We have some amazing eco-facts to back this up: In 2021, Bridal Reloved saved the weight of 20 cars worth of new fabric from being produced and more than 25,000kg of carbon emissions used in textile manufacturing ‒ we’re very proud of our achievements! 5 With regards to your appointment, you are offered exclusive use of our luxurious boutique for two hours, a friendly warm welcome with refreshments, no limit on the number of dresses that you can try on and a celebration in the boutique when you find your ‘I do’ dress with photos using our ‘I said ‘yes’ to the dress’ sign, boomerangs and general all-round fun! So, you can see that there are differences when buying an eco-friendly dress but all of them are to your advantage!
